What can be the best Christmas wishes or sayings?
Just like any other kid even I always believed in the stories of Santa Claus. Being a firm believer now I tell people about the strong belief that kids possess in Santa. The beautiful source of love give a part of themselves to it.
Although not always get what they ask for still, it doesn't let them to lose their undying faith in it.
As a kid even I used to hang a sock outside near the main entrance. So if in case the sleepy-me could not stay awake and as always the shutter of my eyes get closed before the usual time, my Santa will take notice of it and will fill my sock with my wishes.
But as soon as I turned 20, I realized one important thing. It never was the gifts that mattered to me. It always was the coming of Santa Claus that kept me excited and happy. It was that incredible faith that I invested in it which lead me to happiness and smile.
Obviously, gifts make us all happy. But how long can it do that? Material things don't last very long. They come with an expiry date after all. It doesn't have that power over us. As every other thing on this earth keeps on changing, so is our list of wishes. Except for that one thing that stays the same. Which keeps us warm in cold and leads us all out of darkness into light.
And that my friend is the happiness. We always want to be surrounded by people who are happy. So that it will keep us equal as well.
I want to tell you all about my experience which changed my point of view and made me who I am today “Happy me”.
Last Christmas for me was no different from the previous one. I put my sock near the Main door so to make it easier for my Santa to see it.
And the next morning as soon as I left my bed and went out in full force to look for my sock I saw a person standing out smiling at the sun. Well, not every day you get to see such a thing. I asked my mum what is that. My mum answered, “ that's his way of expressing his love for the sun”. Does that mean everything needs love? I smiled at him and that stranger greeted me with a “ Colgate- visible-white smile”. The feeling was incredible and so was this universal language of love. I was totally amazed by I saw. It gave me peaceful energy and positivity.
I looked into my sock but there was not a single thing inside but many.
My Santa gifted me with lots of Love, Peacefulness, and happiness. Which I ended up sharing with my family, friends, relatives, and even with strangers.
That day universe told me about a secret that can unlock many hearts and can turn hatred into unconditional love.
The power of Smiles made this world more beautiful and peaceful to live in.
Should we say Merry Christmas?
Yes.
There is absolutely nothing offensive about saying “Merry Christmas.” It is probably one of the nicest things a person can say to a complete stranger. Saying Merry Christmas is essentially saying you hope that person has a wonderful time celebrating a holiday that consists of family, friends, food and overall good company.
So why not say Happy Holidays? Well, fine. Neither should be seen as offensive. Though, the difference is that Christmas, along with Easter, are the most important days to Christians (75% of the country identifies as Christian). Hannukah is not the most significant holiday to Jews, atheists don't need to recognize any holiday and Kwanzaa wouldn't exist without Christmas.
Furthermore, Christmas is essentially a cultural holiday as much as it is a religious one. America has a long history with Christmas, it's traditions and rituals. (“But Saturnalia, and Puritan bans, and 1870, and…” Let me stop you there… just shut up…)
So yes. We should say Merry Christmas.
What’s the real difference between wishing someone a Merry Christmas or saying Happy Christmas?
Have You Ever Wondered Why We Say "Merry Christmas" Instead of "Happy Christmas"?*
After all, you don't wish your friends a "Merry Birthday" each year..
As December 25th approaches, we've found ourselves saying "Merry Christmas" to everyone from our grocery store cashier to our family members. But have you ever stopped to wonder where the phrase "Merry Christmas" comes from? In a world where it's normal to say "Happy Easter" and "Happy Birthday," the "merry" in "Merry Christmas" is unique.
The folks at Mental Floss recently pondered the same question and found that the answer goes back to the connotation of the two words. "Happy" is an emotional condition, while "merry" is a behavior.
Furthermore, happy, which came from the word "hap," meaning luck or chance implies good-fortune. Meanwhile, "merry" implies a more active showing of happiness—which you might think of as merry-making.
While both words have evolved and changed meaning over time (yes—people did once say "Happy Christmas"), people stopped using "merry" as its own individual word during the 18th and 19th centuries. It stuck around in common phrases like "the more, the merrier," as well as in things like Christmas carols and stories, largely due to the influence of Charles Dickens. The Victorian Christmas went on to define many of today's holiday customs.
Of course, "Happy Christmas" hasn't faded completely—it's still widely used in England. This is believed to be because "happy" took on a higher class connotation than "merry," which was associated with the rowdiness of the lower classes.
The royal family adopted "Happy Christmas" as their preferred greeting and others took note.
Meanwhile, "Merry Christmas" took on sentimental meaning in the U.S. —even hearing "merry" on its own now makes us think of December 25th.
Why is it Merry Christmas not Happy Christmas?
Christmas is associated with the birth of Jesus, jolly and happily singing Santa Claus, and surprise gifts and feasts. The feasts, gifts, dancing, and singing make it more of a physical display of uninhibited happiness. The whole family enjoys together. Decorating the Christmas tree is a family activity. Hence it is merry-making. Children look forward to Santa and his gifts anxiously from months before. Participation of children makes it noisy and happier. It is only for our Christian friends.
New year on the other hand doesn't have happy Santa and his chubby-faced dancing. Not to forget the huge gift bag on his shoulders. So children are least interested in the new year.
This is also a festival for all religions hence the exclusiveness for Christians goes away. It is more of an international wait to enter a new year, usually no gifts, with a public holiday and feasts. The physical display of happiness is slightly lesser here as other religious people also celebrate it. It gets a little sobered down from merry to happy. If you want, change happy new year to merry new year with a little extra dancing and singing.
Happy new year, 2021, to all!
